Our Caring Can Hurt Us: Minimizing Burn Out, Compassion Fatigue & Oppression Fatigue While Enduring Political Trauma Stress: Self-Care & Wellness for LGBTQA2S+ Mental Health and Social Service Professionals
Doing the challenging work that we as LGBTQ+ helping professionals do, while also existing within the current social-political realities of Political Trauma Stress, increases our propensity for stress, burnout, vicarious trauma, compassion and oppression fatigue.
Open to adults within all kinds of interpersonal relationships and family compositions. Address co-parenting, blended families, parenting with an “ex” in the picture, being the non-biological parent, fostering, adopting, polyamory. Explore how being a parent impacts the adult relationship(s) and come up with sustainable ways to foster healthy connection and open communication.
Come together with like-minded humans to safely discuss the impact of the current social-political climate. Understand the psycho-physical impacts that stress, trauma and oppression fatigue have on our minds, bodies and emotions and our personal relationships. Share and learn how to more effectively manage the stress. Learn 14 free concrete self-care and wellness strategies. No one is turned away for inability to pay.

Workshop for socially conscious helping professionals to explore the concepts of burnout, vicarious trauma, secondary victimization, oppression fatigue and compassion fatigue. Learn sustainable self-care and wellness strategies for professional and personal self-care. 3.5-4 CEUs.
Explore the definitions and impacts of trauma and oppression fatigue on our personal health and our relationships. Assess how your needs, background and personality influence your relationship dynamics. Explore the connections to personal self-care, personal values and relationship strength. Identify your relationship’s strengths and areas for improvement. Identify the positives you bring to relationships and areas where you could improve.
LGBTQ2S+ Relationship Survivor Workshop: Being Strong Together When One or Both (or More) Partners is a Survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse or Trauma
Explore the ways that childhood sexual abuse, trauma, neglect and abandonment can impact a person and their relationship. Assess how the ramifications of unhealed childhood abuse impact each of you and your relationship (communication, sexuality, affection, trust, fear, safety, boundaries, addiction, etc.).

Professional Consultation and Training Group for Socially Conscious Mental Health and Social Service Professionals who provide individual, relationship or group counseling or support and/or advocacy. (Click linked text above for PDF)
14-Week Support Groups:
A safe place for those who hold a fundamental consciousness for how the layers of cultural and systematic oppression and trauma influence our personal and inter-personal health and well-being.
LGBTQ+ General Issues Support Group for Adults Working in the Helping Professions, Social Justice and Non-Profit Sectors: Meet with other adults who identify as LGBTQ+ and discuss life, work, relationship and personal issues: oppression fatigue, burn-out, compassion fatigue and sustainable self-care and life-work balance in this political and social climate; Increase personal empowerment, self-confidence and assertiveness skills. Learn skills to manage perfectionism and anxiety. Increase communication and conflict-resolution skills. Improve healthy coping strategies and boundaries. Improve personal clarity around life and work goals. Improve inter-personal and relationship skills. (Meeting time to be determined. Intake appointments start in Fall 2017.)
Women’s General Issues Support Group: Meet with like-minded women to discuss: healthier personal boundaries and co-dependency; Self-care in this political and social climate; Increase assertiveness skills, personal empowerment and self-confidence; Learn skills to manage anxiety and perfectionism; Increase work-life balance; Learn to identify and negotiate personal needs. Build skills for healthier and more balanced inter-personal relationships. (Meets Mondays, 4-515pm.)
Women’s Sexual Abuse Support Group: Meet with other sexual abuse survivors to share stories, successes and challenges related to being a survivor; Define what increased healing means to you and how to get there. Address anger, self-blame, guilt and shame; Reduce isolation; Learn skills to manage anxiety, depression and fear. Increase healthy coping strategies and healthy boundaries in relationships. Increase self-care and wellness. Increase personal empowerment skills. Identify, celebrate and build on personal skills and strengths. (Meets Wednesdays, 430-545pm.)
All groups meet weekly for 75 minutes for 14 weeks with up to 8 people. Email for more information and to schedule an intake appointment. Rate: $50/session. Some sliding fee slots available. Confidential.
