White Allyship Coaching
Anti-racism work is more than learning about Whiteness, anti-racism, and racism. It is about prioritizing an active commitment to ongoing personal discomfort and acceptance of our Whiteness, being open and humble, making internal changes, and challenging external persons, social norms, and systems.
Irene Greene offers White allyship coaching to individuals and groups.
Examples of topics for your anti-racism White allyship coaching services (and trainings) with Irene:
~ Increase racial literacy: definitions, facts, videos: abolition, White rage, White entitlement, decolonization, anti-Blackness, intersectionality, cultural appropriation, performative allyship, etc.
~ Identify and start to recognize the nuances of your Whiteness, White privilege, and White Supremacy culture.
~ Accept that because of the very nature of racism, we White people have learned how to be, act, and think through a racist lens
~ Why we White people will inevitably be performative in almost everything anti-racist we try to do, and what to do about that
~ Unpack Tema Olkun’s Characteristics of White Supremacy (1999) as they relate to us in our families, workplaces, and relationships
~ Deeply explore how white supremacy unconsciously and consciously impacts your life.
~ Examine the colonization of the mental health and social work fields and explore how colonization occurs in our work.
~ Identify how our “fight, flee, freeze, fade, and fawn” reactions to threat and discomfort play out for you in racially-based situations.
~ Learn concrete strategies to respond from our values and not from our entitlement, fears, shame, and anxiety.
~ Face your internal fears, discomfort, and conflict avoidance when witnessing racist behavior and policies.
~ Identify our somatic reactions to whiteness and racism and how our ability to dissociate from our body and heart allows us to perpetuate White Supremacy and racism.
~ Actively grapple with being humble and vulnerable.
~ Dissect examples of workplace situations where your White privilege, bias, entitlement, and judgment are in covert and overt operation.
~ Learn from specific real-life interactions where you weren’t sure what to do, where you made an anti-racist comment or action, or want to do better.
Develop your anti-racist and decolonizing perspectives into actual anti-racist practices.
Strategize ways you will address your personal issues related to White privilege and White entitlement and your organization’s issues.
Make a plan. Identify your blocks. Follow-through. Commit to accountability follow-up meetings.
