Resiliency Coaching to Reduce Political Anxiety and Stress
Guidance and skills for LGBTQ+ people and allies, nonprofit workers, helping professionals and other progressive humans to help you increase resiliency and agency, develop strategies for managing stress, fear, overwhelm, and avoidance, and create a personalized Political Action and Self-care Plan to address political trauma, fear, burnout, and overwhelm.
Trauma-informed resiliency coaching is goal-oriented support and guidance for progressive people who want to build their resiliency, improve their emotional stamina, and well-being. Irene’s resiliency coaching combines an oppression-aware, self-empowering, healing-centered, and non-stigmatizing approach.
Process, debrief, build strategies, and address any of the following issues:
- Have a place to debrief and process what is happening on its impact on you, especially because of the uncertainty and unsafety for you, your family, friends, and community.
- Identify the elements of resiliency and how you can build on them as you navigate the current social-political situation.
- Identify how the current social-political climate of fear, chaos, and uncertainty is adversely impacting your emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual health and well-being.
- Receive help developing concrete skills to manage fear, grief, anxiety, or hopelessness.
- Identify personalized ideas on how to increase your sense of empowerment and resilience.
- Gain updated resources to help you navigate social media and make decisions about your role in the revolution.
- Receive suggestions and templates to help you engage in difficult conversations with family, friends, and co-workers who have different political views than yourself.
- Identify your needs and boundaries to help you better deal with family members who treat you disrespectfully because of who you are, your values, and what you believe.
Specific reflection questions and issues you may want to explore:
How do the intersections of systemic oppression, my identities, and my personal and professional life impact my well-being and sense of safety in the world?
How do I take care of myself in the face of the political trauma stress?
What do health and wellness mean to me?
How do I develop and sustain healthier boundaries in my personal, familial, and professional life?
How do I maintain balance around my social justice-related actions, conversations, and choices?
In what ways am I feeling burnt out, and why?
I am resilient. Why do I still feel so exhausted?
How can I healthily address my perfectionism, people-pleasing, anxiety, fear, and overwhelm?
What unhealthy coping strategies do I use to distract, ignore, or avoid the feelings or challenging things in my life, i.e., social media, substance use, keeping busy, negative self-talk, isolating, etc.? What are healthier options?
How does stress impact my body? Somatically, how can I release the stuck emotional and physical stress and tension that I carry in my body?
How are my past traumas being impact by the traumas innate in the current social-political environment?
If any of these questions are ones you grapple with, I will meet you where you are at, and together we will identify concrete steps to make the changes you want.
