Conscious Uncoupling
Are you “transitioning” your relationship from romantic partners to breaking up?
Do you each want to interact respectfully and intentionally with each other through your uncoupling process?
Does the “traditional” breakup model (i.e., where the spouses have an adversarial parting) not fit the new relationship dynamics you are both seeking with each other?
Do you want guidance to process feelings of loss of identity, dreams, grief, anger, or uncertainty?
Do you want an objective third party to help you work through unresolved or painful issues?
Do you want help negotiating decisions related to family, friends, animal companions, property, etc?
Is your relationship ending or shaky because one partner is “coming out” as LGBTQ+, and you want help with sorting out options, making decisions, and processing issues?
Are you co-parents who want to transition your relationship into an arrangement that centers your children in the process? Do you want to move to a respectful enough place to ideally spend time together as a family, or at least appear neutral towards each other when you are around your children?
- develop age-appropriate language to explain your break-up to your children
- develop consistent explanations for your children, their teachers, friends’ parents, etc.
- develop clear parenting boundaries, roles, and routines
- create and follow a mutually agreed upon parenting schedule
- navigate co-parenting and future dating
Respectfully Transitioning Your Relationship
Conscious uncoupling is for people who want to transition their divorce or breakup with intentionality, compassion, and mutual respect. Even if it is bumpy, each person is invested in an ending process that honors their past relationship and makes space for whatever comes next.
My Role
I bring a unique perspective and skillset to the uncoupling coaching I offer. In addition to my training and experience as a relationship coach, I am also trained in family mediation and co-parenting negotiation. I am committed to providing a balanced, non-judgmental, and safe environment for you each to manage this important relationship transition.
The Process
I offer a free 30-minute Zoom consultation with all partners in the relationship. The purpose of these appointments is for each of you to share your reasons for seeking relationship help and to ask me any questions you have about my experience and approach. If we all agree we are a good match to work together, then we will move forward with scheduling the first session. Prior to this appointment, I will email you each a Background and Relationship-Ending Goals and Needs Assessment Form and a Personal Values Form. I have developed my own forms to be inclusive of the issues and nature of the populations I serve, i.e., LGBTQPIA+, BIPOC, varied relationship compositions, trauma-informed, harm-reduction, sex-positive, trauma, oppression fatigue, etc.
Sessions are typically 90 minutes or 75 minutes, usually weekly or bi-weekly. Together, we will determine the total number of meetings. Depending on the issues and goals, we will likely meet for a minimum of four appointments.
Process for out-of-town clients (when doing in-person sessions)
If you are flying in or coming in from out of town, it may make more sense to do an intensive (i.e., meet together on Friday night and then meet on Saturday and/or Sunday). We can discuss the options after I speak with the parties involved.
All Are Welcome
I welcome and have decades of experience and expertise in working with adults who are transitioning from poly, open, multi-partnered, monogamous, and expansive family configurations.
I work with folks who hold a socially conscious sensibility, are LGBTQPIA+ or allies, and come from varied racial and ethnic backgrounds and differing spiritual, agnostic, and atheist beliefs and values.
